Many children have difficulty paying attention, staying organized, controlling impulses, or sitting still at times. However, when these challenges begin to affect school performance, behavior, relationships, or daily functioning, an evaluation may be helpful.

At Fairfield Pediatrics, we follow evidence-based guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to evaluate, diagnose, and manage Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our goal is to help children reach their full potential by providing thoughtful assessments, ongoing support, and individualized treatment plans.

Parents, teachers, or caregivers may notice signs that a child is struggling with attention, focus, impulsivity, organization, or hyperactivity. These concerns may appear at home, in school, or in other settings.

An evaluation may be appropriate if your child is experiencing ongoing difficulties that interfere with learning, social interactions, behavior, or everyday activities.

Because several medical, developmental, emotional, and educational conditions can cause symptoms similar to ADHD, a thorough evaluation is important before making a diagnosis.

ADHD evaluations involve gathering information from multiple sources to better understand how a child functions in different environments.

As part of the evaluation process, Fairfield Pediatrics requires standardized Vanderbilt Assessment Forms to be completed by both parents and teachers. These forms help provide a comprehensive picture of your child’s symptoms and functioning.

Completed forms should be submitted at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment whenever possible. If required forms are not received prior to the visit, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.

Our evaluation process may include reviewing your child’s medical history, academic performance, behavioral concerns, developmental history, and family history.

Every child is unique, and treatment plans are individualized based on each child’s specific needs.

Treatment recommendations may include behavioral strategies, school accommodations, parent education, ongoing monitoring, and when appropriate, medication management.

For children receiving ADHD medication, regular follow-up visits are required to monitor effectiveness, evaluate side effects, assess growth and development, and make any necessary adjustments to treatment.

Depending on the treatment plan, follow-up visits are generally scheduled every one to three months.
