Why Pierce Your Child’s Ears With Us?

Untitled design-2

We offer safe and hygienic ear-piercing services for children of all ages, starting from 2 weeks up. We use the Blomdahl System, which is a medical-grade ear piercing system designed for medical professionals.

This system uses sterile, single-use disposable cartridges which eliminates the risk of infection or cross-contamination. The earrings are made of medical-grade plastic or titanium, which are hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin.

What Type Of Earrings Do We Use?

Our ear piercing system uses two types of earrings: medical plastic and medical grade titanium.

  • Medical plastic earrings are made from a special type of plastic that is 100% nickel-free. This means that they are hypoallergenic and are less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Medical plastic earrings are also very lightweight and comfortable to wear, making them a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

  • Medical grade titanium earrings are made from a high-quality metal that is very biocompatible. This means that it is well-tolerated by the body and is less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Medical grade titanium earrings are also very strong and durable, making them a good choice for people who want earrings that will last.

The Process

Before the ear-piercing procedure, our medical provider will assess the child’s health and suitability for the procedure and explain the process to the child and their parents. After this, you will be required to sign a medical ear-piercing consent form.

During the procedure, the medical professional will clean and mark the piercing location, and make sure that this location is fine with parent and then pierce the earlobes quickly and comfortably using the Blomdahl System.

We also offer numbing which may help alleviate the pain associated with piercing.

After the procedure, the medical professional will provide detailed instructions on how to care for the earlobes and prevent infection. The child will need to leave the earring in for at least 6 weeks to allow for optimal healing, after which they can replace it with any earring of their choice.

Our ear piercing policy offers safe, hygienic, and convenient ear piercing services for children of all ages using the Blomdahl System.

If you have any questions or concerns about our ear-piercing services, please feel free to contact us.

FAQs

What is the best age to get my child's ear pierced?

There is no medical evidence to support any age restrictions. Some medical providers require that infants get at least their first set of vaccines before they get their ears pierced. Whatever age you decide on depending on your comfort level and your knowledge of the risks associated with ear piercing, it’s essential that you choose where you have the procedure done carefully in order to minimize the risks. We offer ear piercing starting from 2 weeks old. For some newborns, the ear lobe is really small and we may need to wait a while; we will let you know, if this is the case for your child.

Also, it is preferred that kids ears are not pierced between age 1-5yrs because of the risk of infection due to touching newly pierced ears. Frequent touching may be difficult to control in toddlers.

Where should I get my child's ear pierced?

Its important to provide a safe, hygienic and professional ear piercing experience for your child. Our office provides , aseptic techniques, and provide quality services to newborns and kids alike

What are the risks of ear-piercing

Infection – Anytime the skin is broken there is the risk of infection. We use sterile techniques to prevent this. Our patient education material provides detailed instruction on after-care for the ear lobes. Our technique is bloodless and our single-use sterile cartridges eliminate cross-contamination.

Pain – The procedure causes minimal pain. However, we are able to perform your ear piercing with topical anesthesia if you so prefer.

Allergic reactions – Allergies to nickel and other components of earrings can occur. At Fairfield Pediatrics, we use medical grade materials and earrings to prevent allergies.

Keloids – Keloids are excessive scar tissue that forms around a wound. Keloids may occur after ear piercing, and are 80% more likely to occur if ears are pierced after age 11. Other risk factors for keloids include dark skin, previous keloid formation, and nickel containing earrings.

Who does the ear piercing?

Ear piercing procedure is carefully done and rendered by our physician or trained medical provider.

How do you ensure the placing of the piercing marks is even?

Ears in general are different in appearance and shape and may not be symmetrical for some occasions. We place the piercing markings and have the parent/client approve them to ensure prior satisfaction before we proceed with the ear-piercing.

Do you pierce both ear lobes simultaneously?

We pierce one earlobe at a time especially with infants and kids whose movements may be difficult to control.  This way we can assure symmetry of earring placements.

What kind of piercing device do you use?

We use a piercing device with a sterile, single-use cassette that houses the earrings inside. We do not use needles instead, we pierce the earlobe directly with the earring studs to ensure no cross-contamination in between patients.

Do you provide other piercing services?

No, we currently only offer ear lobe piercings.

Do you perform ear piercings on males?

Yes, we do

What kind of numbing do you provide?

Topical lidocaine cream

What are the risks with numbing cream?

Numbing cream are quite safe but there’s always a risk of allergic reaction just as with any creams. The child will need to have the numbing cream on for about 30 mins prior to procedure

Can I expect my 1 yr old to be in pain after the numbing cream wears off?

When it wears off there may be some tenderness in the area if touched but most children do fine.

Can I bring my own earrings since I already have a pair?

We provide pre-sterilized medical-grade piercing earrings which you can change after 6 weeks to your own earrings. Currently we offer 3 styles to choose from. We cannot pierce with your own earrings because we need to ensure sterility.

Do you accept walk-ins?

We do not accept walk-in. Appointment are required for the ear-piercing procedure.

Can I just get the ear-piercing done during the well child visit?

No, we require a separate appointment be made for ear-piercing services.
