Well-Child/Preventive Care

Supporting Your Child’s Health at Every Stage

What Is a Well-Child Visit?

A well-child visit is a routine appointment focused on your child’s overall health and development rather than treating an illness or injury. These visits provide an opportunity to assess growth, review developmental milestones, discuss nutrition and safety, administer recommended immunizations, and answer questions about your child’s health.

Regular preventive visits help ensure that children receive the care they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

Why Preventive Care Matters

Preventive care allows us to monitor your child’s health over time and identify potential concerns early when they are often easier to address. These visits help establish healthy habits, support developmental progress, and provide families with the information they need to make informed decisions about their child’s well-being.

Preventive care also helps ensure that children remain up to date on recommended screenings and immunizations that protect against serious illnesses.

Recommended Well-Child Visit Schedule

Fairfield Pediatrics follows the Bright Futures and American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for preventive care visits.

Well-child visits are generally recommended at the following ages: Newborn, 3–5 Days, 1 Month, 2 Months, 4 Months, 6 Months, 9 Months, 12 Months, 15 Months, 18 Months, 24 Months, 30 Months, 3 Years and Annual visits from age 4 through adolescence

Regular attendance at these visits helps us provide comprehensive care and maintain an accurate understanding of your child’s health history.

Preventive care also helps ensure that children remain up to date on recommended screenings and immunizations that protect against serious illnesses.

Immunizations and Preventive Screenings

Vaccinations are an important part of preventive healthcare and help protect children from many serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. During well-child visits, we review your child’s immunization status and discuss recommended vaccines based on age and current guidelines.

Depending on your child’s age, preventive screenings may also be performed to evaluate hearing, vision, growth, development, behavior, and overall health.

Important Insurance Information

Most insurance plans cover preventive services performed during well-child visits. However, if additional concerns or medical problems are evaluated during the same appointment, separate charges may apply depending on your insurance plan.

Examples may include evaluation of chronic conditions, behavioral concerns, ADHD management, headaches, constipation, or other medical issues that require additional assessment and treatment.

If you have questions about coverage, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider before your visit.
